Mallea uses glazing techniques, multiple thin layers of paint, allowing each layer to dry before applying the next. This technique, combined with the effective use of lighting, creates an effect which cause her images to come alive.
Born in New York , to a mother of French Amercan descent and a Chilean father of Spanish and Basque descent, Lola was raised in South America and traveled with her family extensively.
This rich, multi-cultural experience influenced
the extravagant use of color,characteristic of her work. All of her
world-wide travels and experiences have added to the richness of her
art . Mallea has resided in Lahaina, Maui since 1989.
